Labuan International Sea Challenge 2007 – Opening Ceremony April 30, 2007

Filed under: Labuan International Sea Challenge 2007 — saifulrizan @ 10:52 pm

Note:
I might represent Labuan in a 10 a side rugby league between Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur. Wish me luck!

Labuan International Sea Challenge 2007 officially launched by Labuan Parliament’s Member, Dato Suhaili Abdul Rahman last night at Labuan Sea Sport Complex. I missed the opening speech by Dato, since I wasn’t aware of the event schedule. However, the dinner function was attended by all 30 team that comes for the IGFA Rolex Deep Sea Challenge 2007, emerged from Sabah, Sarawak, Brunei, West Malaysia, New Zealand and Singapore and one team from Labuan. All participants will leave the Waterrfont marina tomorrow morning, approximately around 8.30 am. I’ll be there to snap some photos for my readers.

The only veteran joining this year IGFA Rolex Deep Sea Challenge, an 80 year old uncle.

After the launching ceremony, guests were entertained by sets of performance ranging from traditional dance, band and artists performance.

The dancers are the members of Kelab Kebudayaan Perbadanan Labuan (Culture Club, Labuan Corporation), performed few sets of traditional dance that hailed from Labuan, Sabah and Sarawak.

After the traditional dance, guests and crowds were entertained by Sabahan artist; Abu Bakar Ellah, Velvet and Felix, both were the contestant in Akademi Fantasia 3rd Season.

The first to sang last night. He sang a Malay song (Joget Pantun Melayu) that he personally translated, and presented the cincai song to foreigners. He translated Bersama-sama as Together-gether, and repeated it like more than 5 times. He performed another song as well, which obviously telling the world he got problems with Malay and English pronounciation. And he thinks interfering other singer performance is cool and funny….NOT!

The second performer last night, Velvet. Performed a few songs and delivered it excellently. I shot like 40 pictures of her, simply because the stage light was helpful. Oh, anyway, she said “This song POPULATED by Whitney Houston”. Lol!!! And she sweat a lot someone (guest) gave her a tissue.

The last performer, and the least to talk in between his songs. In simple English, no interaction with the crowd and guests. Anyway, it was raining during his turn, and I had a major problems of taking his pictures (under such situation).

Dato Suhaili was interviewed by the local radio station about his opinion on the organizing of such activities (referring to the Labuan International Sea Challenge) at the entrance of Marine Museum, Labuan Sea Sport Complex.

Tomorrow morning, I will be at the Waterfront Marina to capture some photos of the boats( 30 of it – locally and internationally) which predicted to be departed approximately around 8.30 am. See you there!

Labuan Sea Sport Challenge 2007 – Team preparation

Filed under: Labuan International Sea Challenge 2007 — saifulrizan @ 12:20 am
I went to Labuan Sea Sport Complex yesterday, to have a final look and figuring the best point to take pictures of the event. There will be a music performance by few Akademi Fantasia student tonight at the Complex. And so I’ve figured the best point to take pictures of the guests and peoples that will come to the dinner function tonight.

Back to the topic, few teams were sighted to practice with each other, and I must say it’s not a tight and stressful practice. Everyone’s enjoying their time. Here are the photos.

COme over to Labuan Sea Sport Complex tonight, there will be a music performance by Lotter, Velvet and Felix. See you there, guys, and say hi to me if you saw me. I’m thinking if I’m on Stealth mode tonight. 🙂

Sunset in Labuan April 26, 2007

This is the photos taken at Pohon Batu beach last Sunday. I tried to make a silhoutte image, but I think I need to learn more about the function and settings.
Digging the trunk – Blown picture spoiled by excessive lighting.

Cruising the shore

The newspaper spoiled the scene. I should realise it earlier!

Gold-ish clouds

She’s enjoying the sunset

This one taken at Pancur Hitam beach. Few guys from Lensa Malaysia really like this, and I like it too.

Taken at Sungai Labu bridge.

Labuan Sea Sport Complex – Sailing April 25, 2007

Yeap. as promised, the pictures of a young kid practising his sailing skill. This is also simply another mean of learning the composition and exposure on the picture (which I am terrible with). Anyway, all shots taken in Zoom mode. 12x zoom, I can snap someone naked at Pulau Papan already. 🙂

So, here you go.

Back on the shore, I noticed a couple of kids was swimming alongside the moving boat. I took their picture, and made it like this.

An Illegal dumped to the ocean – Wild imagination, eh?

All pictures taken at Labuan Sea Sport Complex.

Labuan International Sea Challenge 2007 – Stage Preparation April 24, 2007

2 days = 386 pictures… Obviously the H5 amused me a lot and ‘pushed’ me to make a full use of it!

The committee (which I believe is Labuan Tourism Board) that responsible for the Sea Sport Fiesta this upcoming May (1st to 6th May 2007) has started the construction of a floating stage. It will be used during the closing ceremony of the fiesta.

I think they’ve built the same one last two years (last year it was held next to Labuan Sea Sport Complex – above ground of course).

My visit to Labuan Sea Sport Complex last Sunday proved that the construction work has began with all the anonymous workers (in terms of nationality) working very hard to complete the stage.

We’ve got a chance to see one kid practicing his sailing skill. Come over again tomorrow to view the set of pictures.— google_ad_client = “pub-5475124221491357”; google_ad_width = 468; google_ad_height = 60; google_ad_format = “468x60_as”; google_ad_type = “text”; google_ad_channel = “”; //–>

The best shot of my BenQ DC C510 – Final April 22, 2007

Filed under: Photos — saifulrizan @ 11:44 pm

Note:
Last night a group of dancers performed a traditional dance called ‘Igal – Igal’, which claimed to hail from a Bajau culture in Sabah. Im wondering if it’s TRADITIONAL if the music was done with a drum, cymbal and keyboard?

This is the last part of The Best Shot of my BenQ DC C510. Well, I think these were a best shot (I think so laa) based on my knowledge (still a beginner).

Many thanks to friends whom commented on the first set and really appreciate it.

Now let’s roll to the final set.

#1 I dont know why but I think I like this… 🙂

# 2 – Sprite (was trying to play with the ISO and EV)

#3Le Meridien (click for full post) bed lamp – I took 5 – 10 pictures of this object just to come out with this result.

#4Labuan Chimney (Click for full post)– Albert gave an advice to fix the purple-ish ( CTRL + SHIFT + L in Photoshop). Thanks Albert.

#5 – Passing by – Taken last December at Warisan Square, Kota Kinabalu (click for full post). This was the time I met Julian and Flanegan in personal.

#6Dataran Helang, Langkawi (click for full post). Trying to play with the perspective and composition. It turns out the image look pretty tight.

#7 – The benches facing the sea. Purplish. I need to get myself a copy of Adobe Photoshop. 🙂

#8Papers (click for full post)– The expression of how untidy my desk is…. 😦

That’s all for now. I’m glad to tell that I’ve bought myself a Sony DSC H5. I took few (in fact, many!) pictures with this. But for now I have to take photos in a VGA mode ( smaller size ) because I am still waiting for the Memory Stick Pro Duo. Here you go!

Ok lah, tomorrow I’ll show you the pictures. In fact, I’ve took many pictures that I think would be sufficient for a week entries.

Hmm.. Is this a sign that this blog will turn to a photoblog?

The best shot of my BenQ DC C510 – Part 1 April 20, 2007

Filed under: Photos — saifulrizan @ 12:55 am
Few more things delisted from my To-Do-List. I’m happy for what I’ve been through for this month, despite few peoples slaying me from their friend list for the sake of groundless speculation made after the announment of staff retrenchment thing. God saved me!

These are the pictures taken with BenQ DC C510. I bought this camera at Low Yatt, Kuala Lumpur. Can’t complaint much because good things don’t come in cheap. This camera is not very useful when it comes to noght shot.

But on the other hand, this camera helped me captured the best images (as for my own eye only).

#1 – Ferry from Labuan to Menumbok

#2 – KL at night (er.. I like how it turns out eventhough it’s blur and shaky)

#3 – The owner’s house of Beras Terbakar @ Burnt Rice, Langkawi, Malaysia.

#4 – She’s telling me how big the durian was….

#5 – Labuan Sea Sport Complex watch tower

#6 – The horse staple wooden bridge in Taman Damai, Layang-Layangan, Labuan FT.

#7 – Labuan Sea Sport Complex

#8 – The room at Le Meridien, Kota Kinabalu

#9 – Le Meridien, Kota Kinabalu
